Twenty markets, twenty copies

Costa Coffee is one of the best-known coffee brands in the world, with stores in more than 20 international markets. Each of those markets needs its own website, in its own language, with its own menus and offers.

The existing set-up made that hard. The sites ran on Gatsby with a Contentful CMS, but there was no real way to run more than one territory from one platform. Every new country meant duplicating the whole site, creating a new language profile in Contentful and editing everything by hand.

The result was more than 20 near-identical copies, each drifting a little further from the rest. Every fix had to be made again and again, and launching a new market took far longer than it should.

One recipe for every market

We started with the foundations. We worked through the issues the platform had inherited and reshaped it into one international digital offering that serves every Costa territory, with local content where it matters.

At the same time, Costa was launching a new loyalty platform. We integrated it into the international sites and built a single sign-on, so customers have one account across Costa's digital world, wherever they are.

A better blend

Costa now has one international website offering across all of its territories. New markets no longer start life as a copy of an old one, and a fix made once is fixed everywhere.

Loyalty is at the core and customers sign in once to reach everything Costa offers online. It's a foundation that makes growing, market by market, far simpler.
